What is PVC Membrane Material?

PVC membrane material (also known as PVC coated architectural membrane, PVC coated polyester membrane, tensile membrane fabric, or technical coated membrane) is a premium engineered textile made by applying high-performance PVC coating onto a high-tenacity polyester base cloth and finishing it with an advanced top lacquer (commonly PMMA/PVDF/PVF/TiO₂-like surface systems).

How are Technical Membranes Manufactured?

Typical manufacturing workflow:

  1. Engineering the polyester base cloth (scrim) Select denier, weave structure, and strength targets (warp/weft) for dimensional stability.

  2. PVC formulation and compounding PVC resin + plasticizer + stabilizers + pigments + functional additives (UV, anti-fungal, FR, anti-static, etc.).

  3. Multi-pass knife coating for controlled thickness Achieve accurate coating build, consistent GSM, and stable membrane performance.

  4. Heat curing and bonding control Optimize adhesion, flexibility, and long-term durability.

  5. Surface finishing & embossing (if required) Matte / semi-gloss / glossy, low-soil textures, anti-slip patterns.
